Legal Administrative Assistant – Family Law (Wilmington, DE)

Morris James LLP, a leading Delaware law firm, seeks an experienced Legal Administrative Assistant in our Family Law Practice group located at 500 Delaware Avenue in Wilmington, DE. The ideal candidate should have a minimum of 3-5 years' legal administrative experience & must possess strong word processing skills with excellent working knowledge of Microsoft 365 products (Word, Outlook, Excel). Familiarity with Family Law is preferred, but not required. This position requires an applicant have a strong client-service-centered approach, positive attitude, and proficient word processing skills.

This position is full-time, non-exempt, Monday through Friday, 8:30am – 5:00pm (with one hour lunch break each day.) Salary is commensurate with experience.

PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Assist attorneys with all aspects of family law matters from the initial client contact to settlement of cases
  • Manage all client files both physical and electronic, with discretion and confidentiality
  • Respond to client phone calls, visits and emails
  • Assist with client billing and accounting
  • Perform thorough conflicts checks as necessary
  • Adhere to time-critical case milestones and deadlines
  • Assist with preparation of correspondence to clients, opposing counsel, expert witnesses, courts and other parties
  • Organize documentation for court hearings, trials and mediations

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • High level of attention to detail
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to interact with a diverse group of clients & professionals in person, by email, and telephone to provide information with tact and diplomacy
  • Possess strong interpersonal, organizational, and verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to organize and prioritize numerous projects/tasks simultaneously to successfully meet deadlines
  • Ability to deal with/manage the emotions of others involved in this type of law

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Minimum of 3-5 years' legal administrative experience
  • Strong word processing skills with proficiency in Microsoft 365 products (Word, Outlook, Excel)
  • Familiarity with Worksite/iManage or similar document management system is a plus
